Let’s talk about ‘cause and effect’. Check out this chart: it's got a big “I”, and then out of the “I” come all these different things: your thoughts, your emotions, the day of the week, your appetite, your body.
What people sometimes think is ‘cause and effect’, like ‘these things cause me to be a certain way”. Confused? Here, hold on. Is the day of the week in charge of you, or are you in charge of the day of the week? Is your appetite in charge of you, or are YOU in charge of your appetite? What about your emotions – are you in charge of them, or are your emotions in charge of YOU?
It's not that ‘cause and effect’ - here's how it should be: “Cause” and “Effect”, as in YOU cause these things to be a certain way! And that’s when and where you take charge of your life.
Now, check out this chart again. You’re in charge of your life, and YOU are in charge of your reaction to these things. Don’t forget about this cause and effect: YOU are in charge of your life, and they are NOT.
